Purpose of Position
Provide spiritual leadership to encourage growth in faith throughout the congregation. Serve as a leader for creating, planning and implementing programs for youth, children and adults. Recommend and evaluate opportunities to grow Mission del Sol’s Christian Education programs with a particular focus on young families.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluate, Plan, implement, and secure curriculum and resources for all children and youth Sunday school classes.
Advise and coordinate adult Sunday school classes with Adult Leaders.
Advise and provide needed resources/volunteers for Sunday School.
Recruit, Train, Support and Supervise Sunday school teachers/volunteers, including keeping background checks on file and up to date.
Monitor and support CREW (junior and senior high Youth Group) with planning and curriculum as needed
Provide schedule and the planning administration for Summer Urban Mission Trip
Evaluate and develop VBS alternatives, including partnering with other local churches to offer a summer day camp program to children.
Evaluate and implement Confirmation Program including leading curriculum and training mentors.
Develop relationships with parents of young children (i.e. bi-monthly offsite engagement, regular emails, communication, contact with first time visitors, available for pastoral guidance/care, etc.)
Develop relationships with children/youth (i.e. birthday postcards, absentee notes, small gifts/tokens, available for pastoral guidance/care, etc.)
Develop relationship with Teachers/Volunteers (emails/notes of appreciation, teacher recognition breakfast, available for pastoral guidance/care, etc.)
Work with the Worship Committee, Director of Music, and Pastor to implement ways for children participation in Worship including special music by children and Youth Sundays.
Plan special events including for families and children including the Family Christmas Eve Worship service, Palm Sunday Activities/Easter Egg Hunt, Serving opportunities.
Provide media/communication for all Christian Education programs.
Maintain organization and supplies of all Sunday school classrooms.
Oversee Nursery Staff, Nursery volunteers, and maintain Nursery including health and safety codes.
Collaborate in monthly CE meetings offering suggestions regarding strategies, goals, and budgets.
Maintain Christian Education administrative databases (e.g. registration, attendance, teaching schedule, volunteer lists, current parent participation distribution lists, etc.)
Oversee and maintain CE Budget /work together with CE Chair and Finance on budget proposal
Be present and available at Sunday Morning Worship.
Provide other Worship Support as needed from the Pastor or Worship Committee such as Children’s Sermons, participation in baptisms, Sr. Recognition, special events as needed, etc.
Network and create partnerships with other local churches, their educators, and the Presbytery, to create paths of crossover between ministries.
Education: Pursuing or obtained Bachelor’s Degree in religious studies or Christian Education, or equivalent experience is preferred.
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills in working with volunteers, parents, and children/youth of all ages
Ability to recruit for, train, and enhance leadership in adults and youth
Ability to envision short and long term Christian Education goals and priorities.
Ability to source, evaluate and select education resources.
Ability to suggest and adhere to an approved budget.
Familiarity with Technology tools to provide virtual Christian Education opportunities (Zoom, Facebook, instagram, etc.)

The incumbent will work in a variety of environments including any and all buildings and grounds on the church campus. An office will be provided that is lighted, well ventilated and smoke free. During pandemics or other health crises, masks, social distancing and other measures may be required to protect the health and safety of the incumbent and those around him/her.
The incumbent also may work in a variety of off campus locations related to essential functions of this job, e.g. field trips., camps, other churches, community events.
