Montlure Church Camp
Montlure Church Camp is located in the White Mountains near Greer, Arizona, on land leased from the Apache National Forest. The camp sets on the east side of a valley created by the east fork of the Little Colorado River at an elevation of approximately 8,500 feet. The camp buildings are surrounded by a mature stand of fir, pine, spruce and aspen timber and overlook a beautiful meadow bordering the river. Elk grazing in the meadow are often seen in the evening and sightings of deer, bear and wild turkeys are common. The Presbyterian Church has used Montlure Camp for their summer youth program for over 80 years. The camp sustained damage from the Wallow Fire in 2011, and Montlure has been holding camp at Camp Colton for the past several years. The 2018 camp will continue to be held there.
Montlure is owned by the two Presbyteries of Arizona. The Grand Canyon Presbytery and the De Cristo Presbytery. Montlure is a special place for children, youth and adults in the ministries of the church. It provides the opportunity for a Christian experience in a setting that places it apart from the everyday world. It brings campers in touch with the beauty of creation where God’s role in their lives is made real and enriches their relationships with others. The primary emphasis of this ministry is to offer a Christian experience through a carefully developed curriculum and competent directors and counselors who staff the camp each week. Summer camping sessions are held for groups from grade 4 through High School seniors.
